OVR is dynamic.  We have listened and have made small and deliberate changes to OVR events to engage spouses and associate members and it is working.  Our wine tasting and our Owl Creek Tour had almost 50% of spouses attending.  Even our Mid-Ohio DE had a good showing of associate members.  We are also seeing many first time attendees join the fun, and I have met veteran OVR members who just never got around to attending an event.  The excitement of Celebration 50 (October 29 and 30 PoV, Mariemont Inn, C-50 Tour)- OVR’s 50th   Anniversary  year is bringing out many first timers.  We have two more tours upcoming - July and September so keep your OVR Calendar handy.

Race season is upon us and OVR knows how to keep the throttle at full.  You can join other Porsche owners for the Vintage Grand Prix Races at Mid-Ohio on June 24/25/26 and in Pittsburg on July 22nd/23rd/24th.  Porsche is the featured marque for both locations and there will be a Porsche Corral with lots of food and drink for all.  Can Bobby Rahal and his team make it three in a row at Le Mans?  Find out June 11th and 12th.

And finally, OVR’s Club Race is at Putnam Park July 15/16/17.  If you’ve ever wanted to get into the pits and see the racers and cars up close, this is your chance.  If you have considered racing your Porsche, this is your time to see firsthand all the excitement of PCA Club Racing.  Enjoy the weekend watching your fellow PCA members race for the honor of standing on the podium.

The summer is passing fast and OVR is here to help you keep your own throttle wide open.

2008 Driver Education Event at Putnam Park Road Course by Ted Hunter

High gasoline costs, traffic congestions, long commutes and a beckoning winter was enough for over 100 drivers to throw away those concerns for a weekend and took advantage of OVR’s Autumn Thunder DE at Putnam Park Road Course over Labor Day weekend. That kind of congestion on a track was a delight.

The weather was perfect for the activity of driving a sports car, where entry, apex, exit, late braking, tire pressures, throttle steer, trail braking, steering inputs and smoothness were the terms used by drivers and instructors alike. Smiles seemed to be on everyone’s face and everyone seemed to be tired in a good way.

Friday’s session for advanced drivers was well attended leading to Friday night’s registration and pizza party/reception where everyone could meet and talk tell all hours.

Saturday and Sunday were saw students learning from OVR’s experienced instructors and using those new skills to improve. Also, the mechanical mysteries of the Porsche cars were explored by helping other more experienced owners work on various track oriented projects. But, just sitting back and relaxing was not out of the question also.

Ohio Valley Region offers various ways through the regions events to enjoy the Porsche automobile. Three times a year OVR offers a track event: Three Driver Education events and a club race. All too soon the track season is over, but the planning for 2009 starts now with our Mid Ohio being the first of our season. See you there!

Kathie Hunter, Autumn Thunder Registrar:

I want to thank those who helped set up and work the Registration Friday night event. We had plenty of hands, especially when we tore down for the night, to make the job of getting those registered through the process necessary for track access. I could not have done my portion of the event without: Sandi and Herb Beck, Jill Buzzard, Christine Pugh, and Jill Smith. And lastly, a large thank you to the Autumn Thunder Chief Instructor, Jim Briggs who recruits our qualified instructors and matches them with the students in addition to running the Friday lapping day.
