OVR is dynamic.  We have listened and have made small and deliberate changes to OVR events to engage spouses and associate members and it is working.  Our wine tasting and our Owl Creek Tour had almost 50% of spouses attending.  Even our Mid-Ohio DE had a good showing of associate members.  We are also seeing many first time attendees join the fun, and I have met veteran OVR members who just never got around to attending an event.  The excitement of Celebration 50 (October 29 and 30 PoV, Mariemont Inn, C-50 Tour)- OVR’s 50th   Anniversary  year is bringing out many first timers.  We have two more tours upcoming - July and September so keep your OVR Calendar handy.

Race season is upon us and OVR knows how to keep the throttle at full.  You can join other Porsche owners for the Vintage Grand Prix Races at Mid-Ohio on June 24/25/26 and in Pittsburg on July 22nd/23rd/24th.  Porsche is the featured marque for both locations and there will be a Porsche Corral with lots of food and drink for all.  Can Bobby Rahal and his team make it three in a row at Le Mans?  Find out June 11th and 12th.

And finally, OVR’s Club Race is at Putnam Park July 15/16/17.  If you’ve ever wanted to get into the pits and see the racers and cars up close, this is your chance.  If you have considered racing your Porsche, this is your time to see firsthand all the excitement of PCA Club Racing.  Enjoy the weekend watching your fellow PCA members race for the honor of standing on the podium.

The summer is passing fast and OVR is here to help you keep your own throttle wide open.

By the time you read this column our new website should be up and running. John Wahle, our new webmaster, has been hard at work to develop a user- friendly website to better meet the needs of the members and the club. You can visit the website and set up a password by using the following link: http://www.ovrpca.org. There will also be a direct link established soon through the PCA website.

I think the website is well laid out and easy to navi-gate, but as always we welcome any thoughts, suggestions, or criticisms you have to make it even better. There is a monthly calendar on the home page where all events will be listed and an Events heading where details of those events can be found. New features that I think will be especially interesting are the Gallery, Forum, and Sponsor News sections.

In the Gallery section, members will be able to upload pictures taken at club events and create an album in one of the listed event categories. Members will also be able to display pictures of their own cars under the appropriate Porsche model category. If you go to the Gallery section you will find pictures John has uploaded to give you an idea of how the section will function and look.

The Forum was designed to provide members with a place to chat with other club members about anything related to Porsches, the club, club events, or general information. If you want to change the brake pads on your Porsche, but aren’t quite sure how to get started, then the Forum will be a good resource for picking the brains of members who have tackled this job before. It will also be a great way to put together a spur of the moment road trip for the next weekend. Just list a meeting spot, time, and destination for like-minded members to join you for a fun drive on some twisty back-roads.

The Sponsor News section will enable our sponsors to list monthly specials they want to make available to club members. For example, a sponsor may decide to offer an oil change special for the month of October and you will find it listed in this section. A dealer may decide to mark down last year’s boutique items, and this would be the place to find a deal of a lifetime on that 1/43rd RS Spyder model you’ve lusted after.
Members will also be able to post appropriate articles to the website and Kathie Hunter, our Bent Pylon editor will be able to cut and paste them from the website to the Bent Pylon. You will be able to create your own classified ad for the Mart section when you reluctantly decide to sell your beloved Porsche or find the need to clean out some of those spare parts crammed into every nook and cranny of your garage.

Information on how to upload pictures, submit articles, and classified ads will be forthcoming soon in the Bent Pylon and on the website, so stay tuned. In the meantime go to the link above, cruise through the website and let me know what you think of it.

Enjoy the ride.
