 Taste of the Track Minimize

Our Taste of the Track program format has been changed. It now will be incorporated into the actual DE event and is specifically designed to give the driver an opportunity to taste what it is like to be a first time novice driver at one of our Driver Education events. This will be available for both our Mid Ohio DE events which are April 13th-14th  and October 12th-13th, 2013.

Drivers participating will be a part of the event’s novice group and go through the same registration, car safety inspection, driver’s meeting, initial novice group classroom session then drive their car with an instructor in the group’s first on-track session. This session is basically a track orientation without helmets. The instructor initially drives the student’s car, showing them the proper line around the track while pointing out the turn-in, apex, track-out marker cones, flag stations, and a demonstration of threshold braking for a couple of laps before changing seats with the student. All this for the same $25.00. However, you must preregister and attend the required meetings to be allowed to participate in the on-track session.

The initial registration is done online at www.clubregistration.net. You will need to set-up a personal profile, including brief info about your car, in order to register. Payment should be made on-line via credit card. If you need help, or, have questions, send an e mail to the Event Registrar  Dennis Okin at dennisokin@fuse.net. As all Taste of the Track activities take place beginning 7:00 am Saturday morning of the DE, you may want to drive to the Lexington, OH area on Friday night. Event hotel information will be provided to you, along with your confirmation, once you have registered and paid for Taste. Contact Jerry Wolf at jwolf5@cinci.rr.com for more information.

 What is Driver Education?

Driver education is just that, an opportunity to learn how to drive on major road courses and learn how to drive at high speed in a smooth, efficient and safe manner using your own car. DE’s are about rhythm and endurance, about consistent car control, about driving longer times and distances.  To see an example, play the videos at the bottom of this page.

The only items that are required are a helmet, long sleeve shirt, long pants, and a willingness to learn!  Although it is recommended to get your car in good working order prior to arrival at the track, including but not limited to checking your brakes including brake fluid, checking or even changing your oil, and of course making sure your tires are in good shape.

We have good things in store for our membership and participants this year, that's 2012 folks if you have lost track, and speaking of track... time there will be plenty of it.

New this year, all of our events will have online registration at www.ClubRegistration.net and we will not be accepting checks this year. If you have not set up an account, it's simple. Just log into the site, follow the prompts and go to Ohio Valley Region, Porsche Club for our events. Here we go for the ride:

- Autumn Thunder Drivers Education - October 12th - October 14th - Details

Weekends usually begin on Friday evening with an inspection and social.  Saturday you will begin the day by meeting your instructor and learning the basics of driving on the track.  By Sunday there is a good chance that your instructor will sign you off to drive a few times around the track on your own.

All passing is done in designated passing lanes around the track and cannot be done without the lead car giving the trailing car the signal to pass.  The motto of driver education is "No bent sheet metal!"

Have any questions?  Our more experienced members will be happy to answer them in the forum.
