Attending Plastica
Jeff Clark, President
I heard about Porsche Platica on a podcast a few weeks ago while listening to “Shifting Opinions”. It's a very Porsche-specific podcast featuring PCA’s own Casey Parkin ( PCA’s 997 Guru), Dave Van Epps (Sonderwerks in NC), and Paul Kramer (Auto Kennel in California). They were interviewing Shannon Harper of Harper Porsche in Knoxville, Tenn. After hearing the description of the event, I immediately bought tickets and booked an Airbnb in the area.
The 2026 Porsche Platica (Spanish for conversation) is deliberately done on the weekend of Cinco De Mayo. This event sells out very quickly, and the number of folks that the Quarry can handle is around 2500 during the 5 hours the event takes place. It's a lot like Luft in the curating, but the cars are highly exclusive. A beautiful sunny Sunday morning at a place called the Quarry in Knoxville, Tennessee. It felt that the majority of the attendees were either owners or very dedicated enthusiasts of the brand.
This year's theme was the Porsche 911R
It was the largest gathering of paint-to-sample 911R in the country. A dozen Carrera GT, 918, 959 in incredible colors. RUF, Singer, Guntherworks represented. As well as several cars from the Ingram collection at Road Scholars.
Then I walked up to this: Steve McQueen’s 356 Speedster Super 1600. It's the first car McQueen bought new, which he raced under the name Harvey Mushman.
Platica is an amazing event. A little harder to find, but well worth the effort. I highly recommend it.
