Kentucky Back Roads Driving Tour – A Sunny Success!
Tour Leaders Steve Krekeler and Phil Dougherty delivered a carefully curated 138 mile route designed to reward drivers with a variety of short sprints, tight curves and elevation changes that thankfully avoided flooded, washed out or gravel-coated roads while the Pcars wound between the Ohio and Licking Rivers.
“42 OVR members challenged the weatherman’s dreary forecast to make this year’s Kentucky Backroads Driving Tour a sunny success.”
After drivers and navigators received a safety lecture and loaded the route into RoadStr, a new digital application that makes it easy to follow and explore the best driving roads; the five groups of cars departed Wilder in 10-minute intervals beginning at 8:30 AM. After a quick pit stop at Kincaid Lake State Park, the groups headed south to Brooksville, KY for another short stop before turning north to follow a challenging series of state routes back to Wilder.
Afterward, the five groups converged at the nearby Longneck Sports Grill for lunch and the swapping of tales of the tour. Later, cars began drifting back home, with many participants thinking ahead to the upcoming summer tour in Athens, Ohio this June.
Thanks again to Steve and Gwynne Krekeler and Phil Daugherty for all their organizational efforts.
